I unfortunately forgot to start my Dynamic Duo projects in June, so I decided to do half of each project in July to make up for lost work time.
Head Project
Theme: mental health
Medium: collage
Tentative title: "junk"
I am making a self-portrait out of pieces of junk mail, mostly advertisements for colleges and home repair companies, to symbolize my insecurity about being purposeless (where the "junk" comes in). I have finished collaging myself, but I still have to make a background, which will be made of even more junk mail. Both of my first two head projects touched on my identity and consisted of a mix of elements (one was collage and one was 3D mixed media), giving them a more chaotic feel than a painting, drawing, or single-media sculpture
. "junk" continues both trends in my head projects, although it has a more cohesive look.

Heart Project
Theme: animals
Medium: acrylic paint on canvas
Tentative title: "don't you leave your place"
My heart project is a two-sided painting featuring a coyote. On the top half is a coyote against a solid-color background, and on the bottom is a forest background with a blank outline in the coyote's shape. I have painted the basic color blocks of this piece, but I need to go in with a second layer for details and color enhancement. Both of my earlier heart projects were full-body, 2D images of animals, and so is this project, but it is a large painting (requiring more effort than a drawing or digital painting). Both of my earlier heart projects also feature mammals that often make habitats in human settlements (a deer and a bat). The coyote also lives among humans, continuing the theme.
